- January 5 - The National Hockey Association (NHA) starts its inaugural season.
- January 15 - The Canadian Hockey Association disbands. Ottawa and Montreal Shamrocks join the NHA.
- March 15 - Montreal Wanderers win the NHA championship and the Stanley Cup. The club then defeats the Berlin Dutchmen in a challenge. It is the fifth season in a row that the Wanderers have won the Cup outright or won a Cup challenge.
- March - The Toronto St. Michael's Majors win the Allan Cup.
- December - The NHA loses Cobalt and Haileybury teams, gains a Quebec team. The Montreal Canadiens are taken over by George Kennedy's Club Athletique Canadien after threatening legal action.
