[edit] History
Asante Kotoko were founded by Kwasi Kumah, an Ashanti. The club was formally named in 1935 by its founding patron, Otumfuo Nana Osei Agyeman Prempeh II (1931-1970), became the first Life/Chief Patron of the Club, who held what was by then the ceremonial position of Asantehene. The history of Kumasi Asante Kotoko states that an Ashanti, from Nyankyerenease, near Kwadaso, a suburb of Kumasi was founded his way to Accra in the early 1920's only to become a chauffeur to a Colonel Ross an English soldier, in those colonial days, his name was Kwasi Kumah. Soccer historians give Kwasi Kumah credit for having returned from Accra to begin the formation of his first football club named Ashanti United in 1924, which was later renamed Kumasi Titanics. Out of that lineage Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club was subsequently founded in 1935. [1]
