Benchmark Electronics, Inc. provides electronics manufacturing services (EMS) of computers and related equipment to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Benchmark Electronics also provides design and engineering services. The company operates in several fields including medical devices, industrial control equipment, testing and instrumentation products, and telecommunication equipment.
Benchmark Electronics' global operations include 20 facilities in ten countries.

Today Benchmark Electronics operates facilities in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Netherlands, Romania, and Ireland.

Some of Benchmark Electronics' customers have included Sun Microsystems, Medtronic and EMC.[4] Benchmark Electronics has also entered into a partnership with iRobot Corp.[5] Recently, Benchmark Electronics announced that through an alliance with Silicon Graphics, it has helped create the third fastest supercomputer in the world for NASA.[6]

Benchmark Electronics began operations as Electronics, Inc. in 1979. The company was purchased by Intermedics, Inc., a medical implant manufacturer in 1981. In 1986, a controlling share of Benchmark Electronics was purchased from Intermedics by Electronic Investors Corp. In 1988, Electronic Investors Corp. was renamed into Benchmark Electronics, completing its initial public offering of its common shares in 1990. In January 2007 Benchmark Electronics acquired Pemstar Inc., a contract engineering and manufacturing company.[7]
