Henricus Antonius Franciscus Maria Oliva (Hans) van Mierlo (born August 18, 1931) is a Dutch journalist and politician.

After obtaining his Law degree from Nijmegen's Catholic University, he was a domestic editor at the major Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad.

In 1966 he co-founded the social liberal Democraten 66 (D66). He was member of parliament and party leader of D66 from 1967-1977 and from 1986-1994. Van Mierlo was Minister of Defense from 1981-1982 and served as a member of the Dutch senate from 1983-1986.

Hans van Mierlo concluded his political career as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1994-1998 in the first cabinet of Wim Kok. He was appointed Minister of State in October 1998, a mainly honorary title for politicians with an extensive history of government service. His partner is Dutch bestseller-writer Connie Palmen.
