Iansã

Iansan or Iansã is a spirit entity, or Orisha, of the Afro-Brazilian religious faith Candomblé. Iansa is the Orisha of the winds, hurricanes and tempests. She lives at the gate of the graveyard, and has dominion over the realm of the Dead. Her name in English means "mother of nine (children)."

In the Caribbean African diaspora religion Santería, Iansa is syncretised with The Virgin of Candelaria as well as St Theresa and in Brazil she is represented as Saint Barbara.

Iansa is an analogue of the Yoruba Orisha Oya.

[edit] In film

The 2006 Brazilian short film Yansan tells a version of the story of Iansan in a futuristic Japanese setting.
