Nathan Frederick Cayless (born 28 March 1978 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a New Zealand-Australian rugby league footballer for the Parramatta Eels of the National Rugby League. A front-row forward, he is the captain of the Parrammatta club as well as the New Zealand national team, who he led to World Cup victory against Australia in 2008.

While attending Marist High Parramatta, Cayless played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 1995 and 1996.[1]

Cayless has also represented New Zealand on 38 occasions since 1998, including representing them at the 2000 and 2008 World Cups. Nathan is also the older brother of Jason Cayless, another prominent professional rugby league player. His position of choice is prop forward.

In August 2008, Cayless was named in the New Zealand training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup,[2] and in October 2008, he was named as captain of the final 24-man Kiwi squad.[3]

On 24 April 2009, after 38 caps for New Zealand, Cayless announced he would retire from representative rugby league effective immediately. His decision was based on the fact that he wanted to focus the rest of his football career on the Eels.[4]
