The Vegetarian Festival has spread to Pattaya. The purely Buddhist festival of Tesagarn Wan Sat (Thai: เทศกาลวันสารท) (see สารท ๑), which occurs on Moon 10 Waxing Evening 15, now appears on current Thai calendars as Ruem Tesagarn Kin Jae 9 Wan (Thai: เริมเทศกาลกินเจ ๕ วัน), Begin 9-Day Vegetarian Festival. Kin Jae กินเจ means (to vow) in the manner of Vietnamese or Chinese Buddhists to eat a strict vegetarian diet. (Thai: กินเจ, กินแจ ก. ถือศีลอย่างญวนหรือจีน โดยกินอาหารจำพวกผักล้วน ไม่มีเนื้อสัตว์). Any editor who can read Thai and wants to help might try เทศกาลสารท and เทศกาลสารทจีน. Pawyilee (talk) 15:02, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Articles of Faith: Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival by Leslie Nevison is a far better account, including what it has to do with the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. Pawyilee (talk) 04:57, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
