I am Kingturtle on MetaWiki - I am Kingturtle on Uncyclopedia - my screenname is 亀王/kame Ō in Japanese.
In my 6+ years with Wikipedia I have participated in many ways, but my gradual focus on maintenance and vandal-fighting led me away from the topics that brought me here in the first place: Afghanistan, baseball, birds, and event calendars (four things that appear disparate, but explain very much who I am). Now it is time for me to get back to article writing, and to get focused on one specific project, WikiProject Nonviolence. I need to do this for my own sanity and for the betterment of my self.
I have cut my watchlist from ~2900 to ~750. I will cease from copyediting and wikifying articles outside WikiProject Nonviolence (except for fixes on the articles that remain in my watchlist). I will no longer patrol the LGBT Watchlist, nor will I assist with the Article Rescue Squadron and the New Page Patrol. I will no longer update Wikipedia:Recent changes article requests or track down useful public domain images. I honestly enjoyed helping Wikipedia in these ways, but you can see how all of these tasks severely hampered my article writing. I have also de-activated my membership in the WikiProjects Afghanistan, Baseball, Birds, and Days of the Year; I wasn't exactly participating in them as a member should.
I will certainly continue to address vandals I encounter, and I will also continue with my responsibilities as a Bureaucrat, reading all Bureaucrat related pages, the Administrator Noticeboard, etc. and executing necessary Bureaucrat tasks. But my focus will be directed specifically on WikiProject Nonviolence. Kingturtle (talk) 00:04, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Although my first edit took place on November 26, 2002, I didn't really catch onto Wikipedia until the evening of February 27, 2003 while searching for information on the internet to fatten a lecture I was writing on prohibition for my U.S. History class (I was a high school teacher at the time; I am now getting my PhD in education). The discovery of Wikipedia matched love-at-first-sight. For years, I've been collecting old almanacs and encyclopedia. I bandied about different ideas regarding sharing and documenting the information revealed in these discarded sources, but Wikipedia was by far the best idea out there. To stumble on a thriving community devoted to sharing information gave me a tremendous thrill and a curious sense of relief. Thank heavens you're all out there!
I grew up in Rochester, New York, lived in New York, New York and Santa Cruz, California, and now find myself back in Rochester. I am forever transfixed by "Black and Tan Fantasy" by Duke Ellington. I was born with Spina bifida occulta.
In my first edit I changed Camel case to CamelCase. I became an admin 16:15 May 12, 2003 (UTC); at that point I had 3,944 edits and 75 days experience. I became a Bureaucrat February 28, 2004. Here is a summary of my all my edits and of my edit summary rates in my mainspace edits. I am the founder of WikiSCUM, an underground music encyclopedia for Santa Cruz County, California.
A Santa Cruz row house where I once lived. That was my door on the left.
I attended The Harley School. After losing my way at Sarah Lawrence College I attended University of California, Santa Cruz where I received a BA in political science. I've studied with Victor Burgin, Gayle Rubin, Jack Schaar and Angela Davis. I studied closely the works of Hannah Arendt.
According to Political Compass, I belong to the economic left (-7.00) and am a social libertarian (-6.05). That puts me in good company with the Dalai Lama and Dennis Kucinich.
