Vernier is a municipality in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. It is divided into different sections: Vernier Village, Le Lignon, Aïre, Les Avanchets, Cointrin and Châtelaine.

[edit] Tourist Information and History
The Mairie of Vernier is found in Vernier Village on Rue du VIllage 9. You can arrange for a wedding there. It is the oldest part of Vernier, some of the buildings have been around since the 18th century. Wars have been going on since the 11th Century meaning Vernier has been occupied by the Burgundians, the Franks, the Saracens, the Savoy(French), the Swiss, the French and the Swiss again, as part of the Canton of Geneva. It is considered to be the 2nd most important commune after Meyrin. Its current mayor is Thierry Cerutti, but a mayor is elected every year on the first of June between the administrative council, composing of three members, currently M.Thierry Cerutti, the mayor, M.Thierry Apothéloz, the vice president and M. Ivan Rochat, another member. There is a train station in Cointrin and another further on. It is about 5 minutes from Geneva Airport, 15 from the the centre of Geneva.

Apart from Vernier Village, there is the Lignon, a 1km long block of flats, Aïre, which is next to Lignon and down by the river, Cointrin where lies the Airport (at about 5 minutes from the village and about 15 minutes from the centre of Geneva. Les Avanchets is another block of flats right next to the shopping centre balexert. Châtelaine is also near balexert.
