The branches of West Chadic go either by names or by letters and numbers in an outline format. Including the language count in Ethnologue 15, the constituent languages and language groups are:
- West Chadic A (43 languages)
- A.1. Hausa-Gwandara (2)
- A.2. Bole-Tangale (21)
- A.3. Angas-Gerka (12)
- A.4. Ron-Fyer (7)
- West Chadic B (29 languages)
- B.1. Bade-Ngizim (5)
- B.2. North Bauchi (10)
- B.3. Barawa (14)
In addition, the moribund Luri language is West Chadic, though its classification is unclear. The Daza language is undocumented but evidently belongs to branch A.
