Shortcuts: WP:MHCON WP:MILCON

The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles, as originally developed by the LGBT studies WikiProject.

[edit] How it works

The contest is simple in structure and administered by the project coordinators:

1. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month. Editors nominate the articles they intend improving and have until the end of the month to make the improvements.
2. Early the following month, a project coordinator checks the entries and awards points on the basis of actual improvement made, using the project's quality scale as a guideline. At their discretion, coordinators may include points from A-Class and FA reviews which close slightly after the last day of the contest period.
3. The coordinators tally the nominators' points totals; determine the monthly, quarterly, and annual winners; and select one article from each assessment class per month to be highlighted as examples on the project's quality scale.
