[edit] History
The business was founded by Linus Yale, Sr., the inventor of the Pin tumbler lock, when he started manufacturing locks in New York in 1840.[1] The business was incorporated as Yale & Towne in 1868.[1] In the following century, the company expanded worldwide.
It merged with the Valor Company in the mid 1980's becoming Yale & Valor. In 1991 it became part of Williams Holdings who sold the business to Assa Abloy in 2000.[2]
